The wind has blown most of the leaves off the trees and Gichigami is restless, so we know winter is coming soon. But it is still autumn and we are savoring every moment of this glorious season. This is a great time for hiking in our Boreal forest. In fact, it's much easier to see the wildlife with the leaves off of the trees. And you can't beat the wave watching on Lake Superior this time of year. There is nothing more soul-nurturing than a brisk autumn walk during the day, followed by a relaxing evening of good food and a warm fire.
Do you want to explore more of our beautiful North Shore? Maybe find a kid-friendly hiking trail? Or check out one of our stunning waterfalls? Or share the trails with youryour favorite four-legged friend? Stop by our store and talk to our team of outdoor experts. We love this place and we can't wait to share it with you!

By the way, did you notice that gorgeous nighttime picture of our store? Mark Tessier gets the credit. His photography can be seen at Sivertson Art Gallery right here in Grand Marais. And did you see that incredible northern lights image at the top of our page? If you didn't see it, wait for a moment as the pictures rotate. It's taken right here on the North Shore by Nace Hagemann, another one of our local photographers. You can see more of his work at http://nacehagemannphotography.smugmug.com/. Then there's the picture of the stand up paddle boarders with the Schooner Hjørdis in the background. Our own Rachel Swenson is the one who captured that moment so beautifully. And Jacob McCormick took the awesome shot of the paddle boards resting on the shore of Boulder Park. Go to http://jacobmccormick.smugmug.com/ to see more of his photography.
