So few people ever get a chance to see this
The North Shore has over 20 tumbling rivers that flow down from inland waters through deep canyons on their way to Lake Superior. Ever wonder what it would be like to travel these remote canyons? Now you can find out. Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply offers guided back country river skiing tours on the Devil Track, Cascade, Onion and Cross Rivers.
River skiing is an adventure that takes you from a river canyon to the river’s outlet on Lake Superior. You ski over varied terrain and conditions. Distances also depend on river conditions, but are usually between two to four miles round trip. Previous experience with skiing is preferred but not required.
DUE TO CURRENT STATE RESTRICTIONS, ALL TOURS ARE UNAVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. We can’t wait to get out on the trails with you, once it’s safer to do so! In the meantime, you can still rent or buy skis from us. Check out the cross-country, backcountry, and skijoring rental options here. If you prefer to have your own gear, stop in or give us a call at 218-387-3136. Because of the natural distancing with cross-country and backcountry skiing, these skis are especially popular this year, so give us a call soon.
When we are allowed to have our tours, they may look a little different, but Stone Harbor is here to help you recreate safely on the North Shore with our experienced guides. We are following the recommended guidelines from the CDC, WHO, and the state of Minnesota for guide policies and enhanced cleaning procedures.
We have always operated with small groups and continue to do so. If you do not wish to participate with others, you can request a private tour, although there is an additional cost for this. Outdoor recreating allows social distancing to be easily achievable most of the time, however we ask that you wear masks during closer interactions of six feet or less. Due to this recommended guideline, our complimentary transportation to and from the tour sites is unavailable until further notice.
