Fire crews are working towards containment of the Knife Lake Fire using the shorelines and two portages. The fire area is now 100 acres. The interior of the fire area is very difficult terrain, containing blowdown and steep slopes. There is still active torching and considerable smoke coming from the fire. Various Aircraft and hand crews are involved.
Thanks to Rebecca and to Nichole Borson of the Tofte Ranger District for keeping us up to date on the fire status. We are especially grateful for the crews who are risking their lives to battle this fire and keep the BWCAW safe for the wildlife and for all of us who love the area.
