The North Shore: Business As Usual!
Minnesota has been full of wild weather lately – including the North Shore! Even up here in Grand Marais, we’ve had challenges with internet, cell phone service, and long distance (just in case you’ve been trying to get in touch with us). Other than that, it’s business as usual. There is a detour at the Knife River near Two Harbors, with traffic diverted from the expressway to the Scenic Drive for a short bit – but other than that, no real delays in getting here from the south. And there is a lot to get here for during this Summer Solstice weekend!
The Wooden Boat Show is going to be here this weekend, as well as the Lutsen 99er mountain bike race. Grand Marais has a great history of gathering around the fire to celebrate changes in season like this one. Readings are done and it is just a great time of fellowship and community. The Wooden Boat Show has amazing craftsmen showing off the boats they have built or restored. There are a number of programs with noted speakers. The is a chowder cook off where all of the local restaurants bring their favorite recipes, and you get to sample them all (if you can eat that much). And then there is the Lutsen 99er, which is going to be a great race. Take a look at the trailer we posted the other day if you didn’t get a chance to see it earlier.
So, don’t let the media reports of the North Shore being torn apart scare you. There is some storm damage and flooding (including our parking lot…again) but nothing that should put a damper on your travel plans.
And with that, I need to run. It’s time to post our “No Wake Zone” posted in front of the store.
