Yes, it really is this much fun.
Some of the North Shore’s best kayaking lakes are right here in Grand Marais. Our kayak tours can take you to a quiet lake deep in the boreal forest. Or it might be a paddle right out our back door, on the magnificent Gichigami. The lakes in Grand Marais offer clear water, pebble beaches, and an abundance of wildlife.
No previous kayaking experience is required. Your tour begins as you get fitted into your equipment. Next, you have a lesson on the beach that teaches you how to adjust, paddle and get in and out of your kayak. All participants are trained in basic kayak safety. Then your guide takes you out on the water, where you experience the thrill and beauty of paddling Minnesota’s North Shore.
Make sure you call us at 218-387-3136 to reserve your spot in advance because we fill all of our available tour spaces on busy days. Don’t see the tour you’re looking for? Our ACA certified guides are also available for customized tours or individual skills training. Or check out our kayak rentals and plan your own Grand Marais kayaking adventure.
Please note: If your group has children who are 14 years old or younger, the tour will go to an inland lake due to safety concerns.
Half Day Kayaking Tours
Half Day Kayaking Tours are $65/person. We meet at Stone Harbor to launch from the put-in point your guide has picked for you. You may cruise around the Grand Marais Harbor and see the panoramic view of the Sawtooth Mountains. Or you may paddle by Artist Point, Fall River or Five Mile Rock. Maybe you paddle on one of our hidden gems–the beautiful inland lakes of Grand Marais. Your guide designs a trip that suits your skill level and the current weather conditions.
Morning tours are 10:00 a.m – 1:00 p.m.; afternoon tours are 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. A snack is provided. Please see the packing list below for items to bring with you.
Sunset Kayaking Tours
Sunset Kayaking Tours are $65/person. You meet at Stone Harbor to get your gear and then we drive you to the put-in point chosen by your guide. Then you paddle back as the sun sets over the beautiful Sawtooth Mountains.
Sunset Kayak Tours are three hours in length, available by request only, and dependent on current staffing. Time of sunset varies throughout the summer–each trip is timed for best viewing the golden rays and all of the North Shore’s serene beauty. Call us at 218-387-3136 to schedule your tour. A snack is provided. Please check the Packing List below for what to bring with you. (Not available on Sundays.)
Full Day Kayaking Tours
Full day kayaking tours are $150/person. You spend the whole day enjoying the beauty of one of the many lakes in or around the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. You meet at Stone Harbor at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the tour and return by 4:30 p.m. Lunch is provided for you, however we do have a few items we recommend you bring along. See the Packing List below for details.
