This should be the year you decide to spend some time with us in Grand Marais. As we have mentioned, you still have a few days to bid on items on the Gichigami Express web site to get some super deals on your next trip. There is lodging, restaurants and shopping opportunities. If you combine this with adventure packages from Stone Harbor, Sawtooth Outfitters and others that are on the site, you can plan your next trip now.
Our staff will be busy over the next few weeks. We will be ice fishing, dog sledding and attending a couple of outdoor shows. At any of these you will be able to visit with our people (note: we have people) and ask them about the area.
Some of you have been here many times and are looking for some new things to do. Stop on and talk to us about what you would like to do.
We have Beth who along with her husband Kerry were the past owners of Tuscarora Outfitters. She has great insight into many of the BWCAW routes.
Scott has been living here for a while and can tell you about the trout streams, Steelhead fishing and climbing routes on the shore. He is also our cross country ski guy.
There is Chris who can talk about inland fishing and hiking routes as he has lived here most of his life and graduated from Cook County High School.
Jan is a mountain biker. No, we don’t sell bikes but that doesn’t mean we can’t give you expert advice as to where to bike.
Tom is here now and will again leave for Alaska, where he spends his summers. Tell me, when someone says they are going south for the winter do you think of Grand Marais? Tom is a snowshoe racer and mountain climber. He climbed Denali with Lonnie Dupre two summers ago score Lonnie attempted his first January solo climb of the mountain.
And if you end up talking to me, I can tell you about days gone past. I first paddled in what is now the BWCAW in 1962 when in the Boy Scouts. I am also an avid hunter and hiker. When a little younger (ok a lot younger) I climbed Devil’s Tower and would love to do so one more time.
Every one of these folks also have also spent time camping in the winter time. Chris, Scott and Beth will probably be out for the Lake Trout opener on Musquash Lake.
Let me not forget to mention that all of these folks, along with Annette and Linda, know our merchandise and are always willing to give you a helping hand. So include us in your trip plans. We are here all year around.
