Cold and snow don’t have to stop your favorite athlete from exercising outside. In fact, there are some great opportunities for getting the blood pumping and enjoying the serene beauty of winter. We have put together a few suggestions for the winter athlete in your life:
Snowshoes. Sure, you can take a leisurely stroll through the woods with your snowshoes, but that’s not how your winter athlete will approach it. Think trail running with deep snow to add an extra challenge.
Baselayers. Keeping warm and dry is critical for outdoor fun, so make sure your athlete has a wicking baselayer. We have all sorts of options for you.
Polar Buff. The folks at Buff really outdid themselves with this one. We already love how Buffs protect our neck and face but in the middle of winter, we need even more. Enter the Polar Buff–nine inches of cozy Polartec® Microfleece in an Original Buff. Ahhhhh.
Platypus Hydration System. Hydration is critical, no matter what the temperature. And athletes love the hands-free design from Platypus.
Bjorn Dæhlie Motivation Pant. We have the men’s version and the women’s version of this popular winter pant. With it’s softshell front and articulated knees, combined with a full stretch back, these pants are perfect for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, skijoring, and trail running. And it has reflective elements for our city friends.
Women’s Excursion Jacket. Who knew a softshell jacket could look so good? The folks at Bjorn Dæhlie have done it again! This one has everything you need in a technical jacket: 4-way stretch softshell material, polyknit panels at the back for freedom of movement and ventilation and ecological water-repellent impregnation. Perfect for your athletes winter training session.
Men’s Stretch Fleece Jacket. Leave it to our friends at Marmot to elevate the fleece jacket! They designed a warm and mobile fleece layer with a smooth face, which makes it ideal as a layerable mid-weight piece or wearable on its own.
Responder Snow Shovel. Does your winter athlete winter camp or travel the back country? Then the Responder Snow Shovel is exactly what they need. It also comes in darn handy when they want to build a snow fort with the kids.
Rental Gear. Planning a trip to the North Shore this winter? Make sure your winter athlete doesn’t go stir-crazy by renting the outdoor gear you need. Rent backcountry skis or cross-country skis or snowshoes. Bring along your furry athlete with a skijoring kit. Why be stuck inside when you can explore this gorgeous winter wonderland?
