Cross-Country Skier’s Gift Guide

It doesn’t seem fair but we’re okay with that

By Kris Barber
It doesn’t seem fair: not only do we have the best kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding in the entire state, but Cook County also has the best cross-country skiing. It’s true. We have more than 400 km of groomed cross-country trails that meander through the boreal forest. It really doesn’t seem fair that we should have the BWCAW, Lake Superior, and the cross-country trails within the boreal forest but hey, we’re okay with that little bit of inequity. And since we have such beautiful cross-country trails, it only seems right that we offer some gift suggestions for the cross-country skier in your life. Kris came up with some awesome ideas.

  • Osprey Duro Solo Belt
Carry 17 oz. of water with extra room for your wallet, keys, and electronics with this lumbar hydration pack. Ghost gray with 2″ adjustable waist strap. This belt also has a clear window for easy access to that trail pass.

  • Nebo Duo Headlamp
Enjoy night skiing on brightly lit trails with this 250 lumen lamp. Chose any of the 4 modes: Spot light, flood light, red flood light, or red beacon light. The adjustable head straps allow it to fit every melon size.

  • Grabber Hand Warmers
Get seven hours of hand warmth out of these pads. They’re non-toxic, environmentally friendly, odorless, and use ingredients that are non-combustible. Each pad easily fits in your gloves for a gentle even heat. Each pack contains two pads.

  • Sealskinz Dragoneye Gloves
These gloves are Taylor-made for physical activity. Their anti-slip lining improves dexterity and eliminates liner pull-out. They are 100% waterproof and breathable.

  • BDehlie Ridge Pants
What’s not to like about these pants? They’re dirt and water repellent, fluorine-free, quick drying, breathable, and possible to reactivate with heat after wash. With a full zip going up each leg, you can get in and out easily without having to take off your ski boots. Semi-stretchy and perfect for the ski trail.

  • BDehlie Elixir Jacket
This jacket is the perfect match to the pants mentioned above. With all the eco-friendly features mentioned above, they also include zippered side pockets large enough to hold a couple tubes of ski wax and the car keys.
